Tram Tracks

Streetwise Opera Manchester has been part of Tram Tracks, a project to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Metrolink. Transport for Greater Manchester and The Bridgewater Hall collaborated on this  large-scale creative music project which aimed to reflect the diverse communities across Greater Manchester and how those communities’ lives have been changed by the tram.

Over 900 people took part, working alongside a team of professional musicians and facilitators to create 93 new pieces of music, songs and spoken word tracks - one for each stop on Metrolink’s network.

Across three workshops at The Bridgewater Hall, Streetwise Opera’s Manchester Explore Group have wrote a song about Manchester Piccadilly which was performed at a showcase event on 9 July. Performer John Shaw says the experience has been 'so much fun, it has been great to perform the song that we all wrote altogether'.

Here are some of the song lyrics:

Travellers going to so many places
So many people, so many faces
Singing together and laughing out loud
Everyone wants to be part of the crowd

Cultures, backgrounds, genders, race
The metro links us place to place
Cultures, backgrounds, genders, race
The metro links us place to place
