Think opera is not for you? Give us an hour and we’ll change your mind.

Award-winning Streetwise Opera is back, with a joyful and inspiring performance at Middlesbrough Town Hall.

Discover that opera is about raw and authentic passion, and the epic emotions of everyday life.

Scenes from world-famous operas by Puccini, Gilbert and Sullivan, Leoncavallo and others are presented with spirit, boldness and fun by Streetwise Opera performers supported by live musicians.

The Opera Hour includes the world-premiere of ‘After the Storm’, an opera piece by composer in residence Hayley Jenkins, created with participants in Streetwise Opera’s weekly workshops at Methodist Asylum Project in partnership with Depaul, and Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art.

This performance is part of Streetwise Opera’s Opera Hour series, which includes events on 1 March at Middlesbrough Town Hall, 21 March at Sage Gateshead and Nottingham Trent University, 22 March at Southbank Centre and 26 March at Royal Northern College of Music.

The new commissions and the Opera Hour series were made possible thanks to the generous support of Arts Council England, The Dulverton Trust, Fidelio Charitable Trust, The Hinrichsen Foundation, The Leche Trust, PRS Foundation’s The Open Fund for Organisations, The RVW Trust and our Big Give Christmas Challenge Supporters.
