Explore Singing and Acting at Sage Gateshead, St Mary’s Square, Gateshead Quays, NE8 2JR

Tuesdays, 1-3pm
Open to all

Have fun singing and getting to know a different opera each term in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Our Explore Group in Gateshead focuses on developing performance skills, building confidence and having fun. There are also opportunities to be involved in the creation of new operas as well as volunteer and gain work experience.

The group is open to people who have experienced homelessness and members of the wider community who would benefit from a boost in confidence and self-esteem. This session is run in artistic partnership with the Sage Gateshead.

If you would like to attend, please contact the Streetwise Opera NewcastleGateshead Regional Co-ordinator, Sue Hurrell, on sue@streetwiseopera.org or 07598 327 573.

Meet the performer

'I've been coming to Streetwise in Newcastle for two years and my favourite piece of music we've worked on is the Soldier's Chorus. If I could be any character from an opera, I'd be someone from Faust - it's my favourite opera.

'I come to the workshops to learn to sing and have a good time. If you're thinking about coming I'd say give it a try, you’ve got nothing to lose.

'Streetwise in three words would be: fun, enjoyment, laughter.'
