After Winter

A powerful story of hope inspired by Schubert's Winter Journey

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and with the health and safety of everyone involved in mind, we are postponing After Winter until 2021. The performances scheduled for mid July at Middlesbrough Town Hall and the Ryedale Festival have now been cancelled. Find out more here.

As we sit at the table, ready to share a meal, a stranger arrives. He sings of loss and despair. Join us in welcoming and bringing joy to this lone traveller, in a unique immersive experience where music, food and people come together to push the boundaries of what opera can be.

Much-loved baritone Roderick Williams and Streetwise Opera join forces to stage a retelling of Schubert’s acclaimed Winter Journey combined with original music and words by Errollyn Wallen.

Produced by Streetwise Opera in partnership with Middlesbrough Town Hall, Ryedale Festival and Teesside University, and directed by John Fulljames, director of the Royal Danish Opera.

Participants in Streetwise workshops in Teesside are joined on stage by Roderick Williams, Grammy Award winning pianist Christopher Glynn, Brodsky Quartet, Genesis Sixteen and Ryedale Festival Community Chorus.
