Lavender Rodriguez
Composer, Manchester

Manchester based, Hampshire grown Lavender Rodriguez explores afro-futuristic sounds, spinning plates of afrobeat, alternative soul/RnB and electronic dance/pop music simultaneously. Their music celebrates the intersectionality of queerness, mixed race and life experience of what was before and what’s to come. Their plethora of gigs include Manchester International Festival, Kendal Calling Festival, Sounds from the Other City and even visiting Warrington Museum and Art Gallery. By day, Lavender composes and designs sound for theatre (such as Black British History and Tuning In) and their own classical compositional projects, which explores their mixed-race identity in a white-centric industry; by night, they create live electronic muses that instigates collective two-stepping joy.

Whilst creating music and playing bass for band ‘Pedro Pedro Pedro’, Lavender partakes frequently in facilitation, activism and outreach work, having worked with Manchester Camerata and Black Lives in Music.
