We are delighted to announce that we will be taking part in The Big Give Christmas Challenge, a nationwide online match-funding campaign in December.
The money raised will allow us to run a creative project for people affected by homelessness, in partnership with Shobana Jeyasingh Dance and Trinity Laban.
Between January and March, we want to give Streetwise Opera performers the opportunity to create a video performance to accompany music that they wrote in autumn. Participants are invited to collaborate digitally with a choreographer and students to develop and record movement and dance. Where possible, we will also deliver in-person creative workshops in hostels.
In the UK, there are currently around 280,000 people living without safe and secure accommodation, and the effects of Covid-19 are leading to a rise in numbers. People affected by homelessness can experience chronic social isolation, loneliness and poor mental and physical health. We know that singing and creating – live or digitally – allows people to take control, feel connected and be empowered.
Through this project we will support people affected by homelessness to develop their ideas and skills, be creators and identify as valued members of society.
We need to raise £14,000 to make this happen, and we need your help to do it. All donations made via the Big Give website up to a total of £7,000 between 12 noon Tuesday 1 December and 12 noon Tuesday 8 December will be matched pound for pound. With the click of a button a £10 donation will become £20!
Keep an eye out for our upcoming events to support The Big Give Christmas Challenge, and remember to check out our page on the 1st of December to double your donation.
