What do you care about? Safety, comfort, love, pets, chocolate, global warming or peace on Earth? We all choose different things in life to care about, but the passion that we all feel for those things is what unites us as human beings. Streetwise Opera and Trinity Laban explore that passion in a new ‘opera miniature’ created as part of the two-week CoLab2020 project.
After two weeks working together to create, learn and rehearse the new piece, this ad-hoc company will be sharing it with Trinity Laban students and other audiences at Blackheath Halls, in a 20-minute performance teeming with joy, heart and courage to create outside the box.
Music and dance students and Streetwise performers affected by homelessness come together to explore themes related to ‘the things we value as individuals and as society’, our ‘heritage and the evolving cycle of life’, ‘changing perspectives in aging’ and the things we prize/treasure in today’s ‘throw-away’ culture.
This project was led by director Karen Gillingham, composer Hannah Conway and vocal animateur Robert Gildon.
