What do you get when you cross Mozart’s controversial opera with Manchester’s militant heritage and the irreverence of Streetwise Opera?
Tensions grow high as the workers at a clothes factory rebel against their exploitative bosses. But just as management thinks they’ve found a way to stifle protest, witty employee Figaro comes up with a plan that might just save the day.
Join Streetwise Opera for a brief re-imagining of The Marriage of Figaro, a satiric opera by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart that raised eyebrows in 1780’s Vienna for questioning the often contentious relationship between social classes.
Streetwise Opera is an opera company that enables people who’ve experienced homelessness to find inspiration and empowerment, while they rebuild their lives and identities, through participation in the performing arts.
In Manchester, the company delivers free weekly singing and creative workshops for people recovering from homelessness, as well as a series of artistic projects in homeless support centres.
The Factory of Figaro was co-created by participants in Streetwise Opera’s workshops in Manchester, working with a team of professional musicians:
