We are delighted to announce that the Trustees of Streetwise Opera have appointed Linden Ife as the new Chair of the Board.
Linden has over two decades of experience in governance roles in the charitable, arts and education sectors, and as a barrister she has extensive knowledge of charitable and governance law.
Over the last seven years, Linden has been a Trustee and (latterly) Vice Chair of Cardboard Citizens, an award-winning theatre company that works with people who have lived experience of homelessness. Working with Cardboard Citizens’ Chair, she recently steered the company through major organisational change and the appointment of a new Artistic Director.
Linden will succeed Cathy Graham OBE, who was Chair of the Board of Streetwise Opera from 2012 to 2022.
Rachel Engel, acting Chair of the Board, said:
“I’m delighted to welcome Linden as Streetwise Opera’s new Chair. Linden brings a wealth of experience and a demonstrable passion for our work, in particular from her time as Vice-Chair of Cardboard Citizens and on the Board of the Almeida Theatre. She is the ideal person to take us into an exciting new chapter alongside our recently appointed leadership team.”
Linden Ife said:
“I’m very honoured to have been invited to chair Streetwise Opera. I greatly admire its work to empower creatively people with lived experience of homelessness, and to inspire change, which I have also been proud to support through my deeply rewarding time at Cardboard Citizens. I look forward very much to working with Rachael Williams and Martin Constantine and their wonderful team, and with the talented and committed Board which has been so well-led by my predecessor Cathy Graham OBE.”
Linden worked for over 30 years as a barrister at Enterprise Chambers in Lincoln’s Inn, specialising in company and commercial work, requiring detailed expertise in financial matters and in the duties of Trustees and Company Directors. She has previously been a Volunteer Tutor for The Access Project, supporting disadvantaged GCSE and A-Level students, as well as a Trustee of London Metropolitan University (1999-2005), Disability Equality in Education (2000-2008) and the Almeida Theatre (2004-2013).
She will take up her post as Chair of Streetwise Opera from October 2022.
