Dive into an exciting journey through the world of opera with an event that blends music, storytelling and fun for the whole family!

Enjoy the world premiere of  a 15-minute opera about an impossible love triangle and a daring rescue mission at sea that lead to a realisation. This piece, inspired by the music of British abolitionist, writer and composer Ignatius Sancho,  was co-created by people with lived experience of homelessness in Streetwise Opera’s weekly workshops at the Whitworth Art Gallery, working with librettist Paterson Joseph, composer Lavender Rodriguez, director Amy Hailwood, designer Debbie Duru and music director Jonathan Ainscough.

The event continues with an interactive recital of pieces by composers of African and Caribbean heritage: Ignatius Sancho, George Bridgetower, Joseph Bologne, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Florence Price, Margaret Bonds and Shirley Thompson.

The performance is followed by an interactive workshop that promises to ignite the imagination. Experience the magic of songwriting, storytelling, character creation and performance as you co-create your own short opera!

This event is aimed at families with children aged 7 and older. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
