At Streetwise Opera we are super excited to announce that students from Teesside University will be creating a graphic novel adaptation of our new production After Winter. Here are some of the concepts for the main character of The Traveller from Franz Schubert’s Winterreise, which will be portrayed in our show by British baritone Roderick Williams.
In the next weeks we will be sharing blogs by some of the Teesside University students involved in this project. The first one was produced by Kirsty Stebbings. Make sure to look at Kirsty’s stunning work on her Instagram account xbleaxhx.
The concepts have been created by Alex Ludlow, Alana Clemenson, Ben James, Ebonny Cavanagh, Emily Cowling, Jamie Stainsby, Kirsty Stebbings, Liam Farrugia, Mia Redfern, Naomi Asipa, Sarah Scurrah, Tom Philipson and other students.
Second year Teesside University Comics and Graphic Novels students are collaborating with Streetwise Opera to create a graphic novel adaptation of their upcoming performance After Winter.
As a creative individual I find it easier to read comics and use images to understand literature and other pieces of text or music. From this we are working towards a graphic novel to help us and those watching After Winter have a better understanding of the story.
In the past week our class of 20 students has been divided into 5 groups of 4. Myself and my class peers have been deciding which songs within our groups to focus on. We have also discussed ideas on the character designs for the main protagonist, The Traveller. We decided to work individually sketching ideas then as a small group. Next week Streetwise Opera will decide on a final design for us to work with.
