Manchester Support Worker

We are looking for a skilled and passionate support worker with an interest in the arts and experience of working with people affected by homelessness or in the social sector to join us on a casual basis.

The role involves supporting the weekly sessions (at least 5 per term,15 per year) on Mondays when you would be required to work 1.30-4.30pm, in addition to up to 1 hour a week to pick up on any urgent pastoral care between sessions or communications with performers. The role will also include casual hours within our Streetwise Plus programme which can include supporting performers during theatre trips, cultural events, visiting exhibitions and taking part in creative skills development workshops.

You will work in collaboration with a dedicated team, supporting individuals to participate in singing and creative sessions, enabling participants self-expression within the principles of our Streetwise values.

Streetwise Opera is an opera company that enables people who’ve experienced homelessness to find inspiration and empowerment while they rebuild their lives and identities. We support participants to develop as creative people and, as we amplify their voices, change how society views homelessness.

We engage world-class artists, both established and emerging, to co-create bold new work and reimagine traditional repertoire. We create opera that is for everyone and, by bringing together diverse voices, change how society views opera.

We get together every week to sing, create and share stories, explore opera and the arts, make new friends, get inspired and empowered and have fun!

These free weekly Streetwise Sessions take place every Monday, 2pm-4pm. The sessions are led by friendly professional artists and attended by approximately 15-20 bold and courageous Streetwise Opera performers.
