We are thrilled to announce that The Passion, our latest opera in co-production with The Sixteen and in association with HOME, will be broadcast on BBC Four at 7pm on Easter Sunday (27 March). The Passion will also be available to watch online on BBC iPlayer.
We’re delighted that this will give audiences the opportunity to see this sold-out opera world premiere in Manchester’s Campfield Market.
Our landmark site-specific production is an abridged version of Bach’s iconic oratorio St Matthew Passion brought powerfully to life as an immersive fully-staged opera. Performers from The Sixteen and Streetwise Opera make up the vibrant ensemble cast, conducted by Harry Christophers.
Featuring a new ‘resurrection’ finale jointly written by Streetwise Opera’s performers and celebrated composer Sir James MacMillan, direction by the award-winning Penny Woolcock, designs by Dick Bird and video/lighting by Imitating the Dog, this promises to be an extraordinary performance that can now be experienced by television audiences across the country.
Please spead the word about the broadcast to friends, family and colleagues – it’s a great opportunity to introduce people to our work.
The broadcast on BBC Four will be a 60-minute version of this 70-minute production – look out for a full-length version on Streetwise Opera’s YouTube channel after Easter weekend.
The broadcast is made possible by The Space.
